Beyond the Prairies

Shortly after leaving Edmonton, we also left the
YellowHead Highway
(Trans Canada #16) and turned northwest onto
Provincial Road
#43.  It is a very nice road and we made good time, although we weren’t going far.  We had plenty of time available to look at some “touristy” things, like Sangudo’s unique 21 ft high Sundial Elevator.

To quote from the Milepost, “… a working sundial shaped like a grain elevator, is a favorite photo stop…”  It wasn’t big-rig-friendly so we had to disconnect the car, turn everything around, and reconnect it.

Just a short distance later was this railway bridge.

Quoting Milepost again, this is “Second longest wooden railway trestle in the world…” 2414 ft long, built in 1914. There wasn’t a good place to stop for photos so this one was taken as we went by.

The weather ranged from sunny to rainy, and everything in between without being any worse than annoying: heavy showers were brief and lightning was very limited. As we got further northwest, the prairies gave way to forest on rolling hills, not yet mountains, not even foothills. Here is a typical view:

And here we are at the end of a fairly short day near Valleyview Alberta
A question for the granddaughters (or anyone else) - in the U.S. we have one dollar paper bills.  In Canada, they have coins worth one and two dollars.  These coins have kind of funny names.  What are the names of these two coins?
