Bright and early Thursday morning (5:30 a.m.), we walked to the railway station only 10 minutes away from our campground with another couple who took the same tour. We had all purchased upgraded seats so we had a great view from the second level seating in a dome car. The day was mostly cloudy so we didn't get clear views of the mountains, but it was was still spectacular! Going out of Anchorage, the train followed along the highway and the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet.
Then it went up and around the mountains and by the glaciers.
We got to Seward around 11AM and walked around the newer part of town. We later learned of the devastation here from the 1964 earthquake/tsunami combination. After lunch in an old troop train, we shopped the length of town, ending up in the original section, by the aquarium.
We used another discount coupon to see some of their residents including this seal
We had plenty of time to get back to Seward's train depot for our return trip late into the evening.
