Fri., July 1:
Phil and Elsie took us sightseeing, up and over the Hatcher Pass Road from Willow to Palmer.
The top of the pass was about 3900 feet and quite cool and foggy today. Not much scenery when you are in the clouds. We stopped for awhile near the peak at Independence Mine, now a state Historical park.
Until 1971, when the Parks Highway was built, the only way to get to Willow was by the railroad. For the evening, one of Phil’s daughters (Paige’s cousin) Dianne came to visit.
These cousins hadn’t seen each other in about 40 yrs or so.

Thurs, June 30:
We had a fairly short driving day, traveling south on the Parks Highway to Willow, AK.
We arrived at Uncle Phillip’s place about 2PM after stopping at 3 or 4 wayside rests to look back at Denali. We have yet to see the mountain itself. At one rest stop, we were told the clouds parted yesterday and visitors could actually see the mountain for 15 minutes (of a 21 hour day’s worth of daylight). We have no Internet service here, so will post when we can later (coffee shop or bookstore, etc).
